Hey,

It's been a fun few weeks with some really nice sites being launched. I can't believe the amount of money that is now being thrown at building the best web site possible for your brand. It's not about using the "leftover" money anymore. Clients are taking the web super seriously now and the money is flowing... Ikea below is one such example.

Have fun!

Mark

  Flying Kitchens
http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/rooms_ideas/ckl/default.html

Another set of Ikea dream kitchens is online to be explored. We've already seen the great idea to navigate through the images, so this time they've decided to surprise (and impress) us with a great art direction that combines music & environments.

From the Italian tarantella for the crowded family eating outside to the stylish swing for the gay couple, music plays a key role in the experience. Special effects do a great job for branding, small kitchen products are there, but I miss something about the kitchens themselves which end up being just the environment where the voyeuristic flying takes place. But maybe they are right. These are kitchens to dream of, and just flying through them is teasing enough to want to go and see more.

  Know your geek speak?
http://apacappzone.intel.com/apac/silicongame/

Intel Hong Kong has built a pretty cool online game. Step into a futuristic era where technology is all-encompassing and Silicon is the lifeblood for any and all operations. You are the Superuser... An administrator holding unlimited access privileges within your base of operations, the Domain.

Your mission? From your Control Center, you command a fleet of intelligent robots known as Clients who gather Silicon and help you do battle. Some are enabled with advanced technology giving you enhanced manageability, improved security and better performance.

Agents of Chaos, including viruses, hackers and spyware are targeting your Clients and affecting your daily routines. Do you have the IT know-how and managerial skills to handle your fleet, control your budget and maximize productivity to gather more Silicon than the competition? I didn't but had a lot of fun giving it a go.

  FIFA08
http://www.canyoufifa08.com/

EA Sports has launched a mini-site to promote the 2008 edition of the videogame Fifa. Can you Fifa 08? features a series of videos in which popular players like Ronaldinho, Ramos and Rooney are challenged to imitate themselves and replicate on improvised pitches the tricks they perform in the videogame.

The site has a good interface and an interesting map that allows visitors to navigate through key moments of the video. Unfortunately the overall Fifa experience is not as smooth as it might have been. Can you Fifa 08? only features the campaign videos, to find out more about the game you have to migrate to another site, much more traditional and, I'm sorry, "boring". It would have been great to see the campaign concept exploited to a deeper and more integrated level.

The TurboChef cooks food up to 15 times faster and watch some chef guy cook for you. All good stuff.

Aleksandra Pawelek

It is said that the golden age of sixteenth century Poland was begun with the birth of a perfect child. 500 years later, Aleksandra Pawelek was born in Krakow and the whole country again held hands and prepared themselves for the a new golden age to lift Poland out of it’s never-ending economic crisis. But then Michael from FBI Recruitment placed a call and we poached Aleks away to Australia to be our Account Manager. Sorry Poland.

Startups To Watch

By Mark Ashley-Wilson

It's getting crowded on the Web 2.0 frontier, but there are still some startups that truly stand out. Business 2.0 Magazine identifies the ones most likely to strike gold in 2007.

Here is number one. Visit the site to see the other 24.

www.stumbleupon.com
Launched in 2002 by three 20-somethings in a Calgary, Alberta, apartment, StumbleUpon now has 2 million registered users drawn by its knack for finding websites that match their interests and those of others with similar tastes as they "stumble" around the Net.

Co-founder Garrett Camp, who totes around a mid-'80s Nikon F3 (yes, with actual film), came up with the idea as he was working on a master's in software engineering.

Frustrated as he tried to indulge his hobby online - "There wasn't a good way to find the best photo sites," Camp says - he tapped his own background in clustering technology. With coding help from Justin LaFrance and Geoff Smith, he created an early version of StumbleUpon. Having nailed the photo problem, the team quickly saw how the technology could click with all sorts of media.

In the same way that it matches users with like-minded websites, StumbleUpon's technology also pairs online ads with targeted demographics and interests. Now StumbleUpon is attempting to do the same for online video and video advertising. In December the startup launched StumbleVideo, a service that offers the closest thing to channelsurfing that you'll find on the Web.
